Do you like food photography? But don’t have a DSLR camera? No problem, you can still do it with a cellphone camera. Want to know how to photograph food properly? Take a peek at the following tips.
We will provide a number of tips and tricks for those of you who like to take pictures of food to produce quality photos only with a mobile camera.
1. Natural light
The first thing you can do in food photography is to pay attention to the coming of the light. The natural light that comes from sunlight, will give the impression of a soft and indeed not made-up on your photos. Try to take pictures in the golden hours. Ie, at 8-10 in the morning or at 4-5 in the afternoon, when the sun’s rays are golden. This will give a warm and slightly dramatic impression.
2. Find the right angle
Photograph food can be done from two angles, namely eye level or top angle. Eye-level is taking pictures with the eye level. While the top angle is photographing from above. The selection of the shooting angle depends on the message you want to convey.
Food photography is very closely related to styling. Although the main subject is food, the results will be less interesting if the photo only shows food on a plate.
4. Shoot the fresh food
There are some foods that appear to change quickly after serving, for example, ice cream. Therefore, you must take pictures immediately when the food is still fresh.
5. Don’t use the zoom
Cellphone cameras tend to reduce photo objects, so always try to shoot from a sufficient distance so that the entire object can fill the frame without having to use the zoom.
6. Rule of thirds
The photo area is divided into 9 squares with 2 horizontal and 2 vertical, there will be 4 meeting points of the line. The main object is placed at one of these points. The rule is that 1/3 of the frame is used for the main object and 2/3 is used for the background.
Before sharing photos on social media, you can polish it with a mobile application. Whether it’s for cropping, adjusting the color mood, and so on.
